Chances are that it is a lymph node. Lymph nodes may be enlarged by an infection (eg the inner ear, throat, etc..). If it gets too big or always has great size, should be evaluated. Some lymph nodes may be persistent. Other causes of an increase in the lymph nodes are cancers, such as lymphoma, and others.
